The Cheltenham Festival 14 -17th March 2023
The Cheltenham Festival is truly one like no other. The first organised horse race took place in 1815, paving the way for the current highly successful industry. This jump racing event takes place over 4 days at the Cheltenham Racecourse from the 14 – 17th of March 2023, bringing in people worldwide. Owners, trainers, and jockeys battle it out for the highest racing honour of competing in the Gold Cup Race. Rachel Blackmore broke records in 2022 by becoming the first female jockey to win that coveted Gold Cup. The electric atmosphere, heightened by food and drink, can be enjoyed from private boxes or soaked up right in the middle of the crowd as they cheer on their winning horse. Among others, the Cheltenham Literature Festival is one of the most popular festivals in Cheltenham. Starting 7- 16th of October 2022, it is the world’s first Literature Festival, sporting authors, live speakers and book signings. A mixture of free and ticketed events and activities will entertain all ages. Poets and spoken word artists join award-winning fiction and nonfiction authors in all genres, such as religion, art, history, travel, food, and drink. Past guests have included high-profile speakers like David Cameron, Hillary Clinton and Sir David Attenborough.
Located at the Imperial Gardens from 6-11th June 2023, Cheltenham Science Festival is an event everyone should attend. With new up-and-coming technology, cyberwar, experiments and more, there is something for the whole family to enjoy. Free, interactive activities keep little ones entertained whilst also helping them learn about technological advancements, the importance of online safety and the wonders of the natural world. Live shows and speeches from great scientists, activists and educators, such as Dr Brian Cox, allow people of any age to learn something new!
The Music Festival here in Cheltenham, which originated in 1945, celebrates the love for classical music. The rich and diverse programme creates a musical tour in the beautiful Cotswold surroundings from 7-15th July 2023. It boasts 12 days of musical adventures for all ages, including free pop-up performances. From hands-on family concerts to world premieres of some of the best performers, previous guests have included Nicola Benedetti, Steven Isserlis, Alfie Boe, Milos and Evelyn Glennie.
Host to some of the world’s most excellent musicians, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, 26th of April – 1st of May 2023, brings in over 20000 music fans yearly. Celebrating over 25 years of music excellence, the Cheltenham Jazz festival has hosted over 940 artists worldwide. The free outdoor live events showcase brilliant up-and-coming acts. The main stage boasts live performances from big-name appearances like Gregory Porter, Paloma Faith, James Bay and more. You can kick back, relax and enjoy the music with food and drink!
